Our Master Bathroom Mood Board

Ah, the mood board: a visual made of your desired space before diving into a project. Well, we’re well past the halfway mark. And – while I’ve been collecting (and even purchasing) many of the finishes for the master ensuite – I’d yet to compile the design into a cohesive visual. Until today! A master bathroom mood board is something I should have done months ago, and would have saved a lot of explaining and debating with my husband. Because when I showed him this, he seemed to instantly get it! Everything we’ve selected or were still debating (or he was even seeing for the first time in one case) made sense through one image:

I’ve been paying Shades of Light frequent visits these days. If you follow along on Instagram, you may have seen a cute pair of sconces I bought potentially for the master bath. We’re also very strongly considering the fixture featured here (Modern Milky Bath Sconce), which we suspect would give off brighter light, since it’s not surrounded by ceramic. With several natural materials selected, we wanted to keep a cool, modern touch to the space. So, we are going nearly all in on polished nickel fixtures. With such sleek, clean lines, we pretty quickly decided on these Grohe faucets for our vanity.

Early this year we selected and ordered Room & Board’s 70″ Berkeley vanity in Oak. This is also a modern piece with clean lines, and was considerably more affordable than having the same style custom built by the contractor’s cabinet company!

I recently found this great, affordable wool runner on Wayfair and quickly placed an order. I even added a matching one to throw in the neighboring walk in closet which will also be tile. While it hasn’t arrived yet, I think it’ll be a great complement to the art planned for the space which features teals and blues. It’ll also bring in color (against many neutral finishes) as well as that midcentury-modern element! Best of all, husband agreed on the design!

The Art

Above the soaking tub I plan to hang this piece by my mother, who is an artist. She was a flight attendant for many years and captured this view of Lake Wolfgang in Austria in the 1970s. I’ve always loved it, as it hung in her and my dad’s bedroom when I was growing up. She gifted it to me a few years ago and I’m looking forward to it hanging in this new space!
