Construction is clipping along on the addition. Walls are up and sanded, and patching in hardwood in the original bathroom space is next. That means I need to start thinking of a new area rug for our bedroom! Which also means I am thinking about the overall decor for the room. I want this room to play into the colors, textures and style of our adjoining bathroom. I’ve played with creating a mood board for the bedroom to both help us narrow down a rug option and ensure we’re complementing that neighboring space.
Prior to our renovation, our bedroom footprint was small – only about 11 x 14 – and included a king size bed. Within that space, we had an 8′ x 10′ area rug laying offset in the room to offer more coverage on the side closest to the door. That meant there was no coverage on the opposite side of the room and bed, which happened to be my side!
Now that our footprint is a little larger, we’ll add a new, larger rug to the space as well. I’ve narrowed it down to six options below, and also paired them with a draft mood board for comparison!
Criteria for this rug is wool or a wool blend and 9x 12 is the right size. I’m looking for something in the neutral spectrum that will complement the color and theme of the adjoining bathroom and something I believe husband will agree to!
1. Dealba Geometric Handmade Tufted Area Rug
Wayfair | Light Blue
I’ve had my eye on this rug for at least two years. I find the design interesting, and it has a nearly perfect rating from Wayfair.
2. Polly Checkered Handmade Tufted Area Rug
Wayfair | Slate / Ivory
This design is by Chris Loves Julia for Loloi. It’s a wool and Jute/sisal combo, which is interesting, and it also has awesome ratings. If not for the bedroom, I feel like this one could be a good fit for elsewhere in our home!
3. Capitola Hand-Tufted Wool Rug
Pottery Barn | Gray
There are a couple of things I really like about this rug. It’s so perfectly neutral while also being interesting. And the design reminds me of the layout of tile in our master shower, which could be a neat tie-in.
4. Gaten Handmade Tufted Area Rug
Wayfair | Ivory/Beige
Another option with strong customer ratings, this rug almost has a very faint neutral cross hatch/plaid type pattern, which feels midcentury to me.
5. Reina Handwoven Wool Rug
Restoration Hardware | Silver
Splurge alert! I saw this rug in our local RH store months ago and have been thinking of it ever since. It looks and feels so luxurious with an antique yet polished quality.
6. Leela Handmade Tufted Wool Area Rug
Wayfair | Gray
This option definitely pulls in a hint of aqua, with a detail that’s “inspired by abstract and geometric freehand art” – a style associated with the midcentury.
Now for the mood board(s) – a version with each of the aforementioned rug options! I’ve incorporated our current furniture: a maple dresser and nightstand from Gat Creek’s Tomlin collection. I’ve reflected an example of art I’d like to incorporate (and may attempt to create myself) and a few other pieces I have my eye on!
Dresser | Nightstand | Lamp | Aqua Pillow | Striped Pillow | Plant
As a refresher, here’s the master ensuite mood board, which I hope the bedroom will complement:
Stay tuned to see what we select for the master bedroom rug. And, let me know your favorite in the comments!
